Friday, April 4, 2025
"Stu Lash is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the Club’s roster and culture."
The Brisbane Bullets have announced Stu Lash as their new head coach.
Previously the Bullets’ senior basketball advisor, Lash replaces Justin Schueller, boasting an “elite basketball pedigree”, according to Brisbane CEO Mal Watts.
“This marks an exciting chapter for the Bullets as we take deliberate steps toward long-term success,” Watts said.
“Stu Lash is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the Club’s roster and culture, as well as an elite basketball pedigree.
“Myself, along with our ownership, players and staff, firmly believe that Stu has the ability and mindset to unlock the full potential of the Bullets and lead the team to success both on and off the court.”
Lash has experience in key roles with NBA teams the Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets.
George Karl, former Head Coach of Denver and a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, worked closely with Lash at the Nuggets, when he was a member of the coaching staff.
“Stu brings high energy. He was great with players, self-motivated and displayed strong traits as a teacher and natural leader,” Karl said.
Lash said he was excited to get started in his new role.
"The Bullets have laid a strong foundation, and I’m excited to build on that as we take the next step. This club has the right pieces in place, and now it’s about bringing them together to elevate us for NBL26 and beyond," he said.
“Over the past few years, I’ve built strong relationships within the club and have a deep appreciation for the Bullets and the city of Brisbane and the region of Queensland. We’ve got an incredible fan base, top-tier facilities, and a talented roster—now we’ll take that next step together.”
Brisbane also announced Professor Stephen Bird as its new high-performance director.
Bird, an internationally recognised performance scientist and strength and conditioning coach, has led athlete support systems for elite sport programs across six countries.
“The appointment of Stephen Bird as High-Performance Director ensures that the Bullets are implementing world-class strategies to enhance player health, preparation, and performance,” Watts added.
