NBL legend pushes WMW Boomers selection

Tuesday, August 1, 2023
NBL commentator and former Perth Wildcat Damian Martin believes Will McDowell-White could thrive in the environment of international basketball.
NBL legend Damian Martin has called for caution when selecting the Boomers squad for the upcoming FIBA World Cup, and has backed the chances of Breakers guard Will McDowell-White finding his way into the final 12 players.
Australia’s guard stocks look set to cause the biggest selection headaches for head coach Brian Goorjian, with McDowell-White competing with the likes of NBA talents Dyson Daniels and Josh Giddey, and Boomers veterans Matthew Dellavedova and Chris Goulding for a position.

“McDowell-White is who I’m excited to hear how he goes,” Martin told News Corp.
“I really rate him and think he will be able to no just hold his own, but shine.
“But I think a lack of time in this environment hurts his chances.”
Martin was no stranger to international representation during his career. The six-time NBL champion and six-time NBL Defensive Player of the Year lined up for Australia at both the FIBA World Cup and the Olympic Games.
The Boomers are currently undertaking a training camp in Cairns before participating in a string of warmup games in Melbourne.
The World Cup gets underway on August 25.
