Taipans lock in key big

The Cairns Taipans have secured the signature of key big, Sam Waardenburg, with the 26-year-old committing to the club on a one-year deal.

Waardenburg had the most consistent season of his career to date throughout NBL25, averaging 14.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists a game, across 26 appearances. 

His averages were well up from his NBL24 campaign, where he went at 9.7 points and 5.2 rebounds a game.

Waardenburg’s signing comes off the back of Kyrin Galloway and the Taipans agreeing to their mutual option for another season with the club.

The NBL’s Free Agency period officially gets underway on April 4.
