Boomers coach Brian Goorjian continues to leave the door ajar for Ben Simmons to come into the Boomers’ World Cup squad, despite the Brooklyn Net not being named in the initial group of 18 players.

Simmons has been battling consistent back issues since the midway point of the NBA season, but recently posted images of himself in the gym as he prepares to make his return.

The three-time NBA All-Star has not represented his country since missing the roster for the 2014 World Cup.

“The conversation with Ben has been positive all the way through and I feel like there’s a real chance that (he plays at the World Cup),” Goorjian told News Corp.

“He is working out hard and he is going to know where he is at and if he is capable.

“I’m very comfortable with what has been presented – and that is he’ll be there – but if not, hopefully there is an Olympics down the road.”
