Adelaide head coach Mike Wells says the 36ers’ upcoming travel schedule around pre-season games and the Blitz will be vital to building team chemistry.

Having been in the head coaching role for just three weeks, growing camaraderie with his players is key for Wells, while imports Jarell Martin and Kendric Davis will also need to gel quickly with their new teammates.

The 36ers will host Brisbane in Mount Gambier in their only official pre-season game next week, before heading to the Gold Coast for the Blitz.

Wells stressed the importance of using a period of travel to focus solely on basketball, particularly after a month that's seen a change of coach and plenty of public scrutiny.

“I think it’s going to be good being on the road and will limit our distractions,” he said.

“This will put us in an environment where we can be around each other.

“It simplifies things to be in a hotel, where we can have some group meetings and some individual meetings.

“We have had eight days to get our ideas and concepts across to the guys and we are going against a group which is obviously well-established (Brisbane).

“We need to build communication and build that foundation that hopefully leads us to success.”

Adelaide takes on the Bullets at Wulanda Recreation Centre in Mount Gambier on Wednesday, September 4 at 7:30pm AEST, before the Blitz gets underway on the Gold Coast on September 7.
