Adam Caporn boasts extensive coaching experience, currently serving as an assistant coach at the Washington Wizards.

Adam Caporn will be the next Australian Boomers coach.

In addition to Caporn, Melbourne United head coach Dean Vickerman has been named associate head coach and will be expected to lead the team during non-tournament FIBA windows.

Caporn boasts extensive coaching experience, currently serving as an assistant coach at the Washington Wizards in the NBA.

He was previously an assistant at the Brooklyn Nets, from 2022 to 2024, and head coach of the Long Island Nets, the franchise’s G-League affiliate.

"It is an incredible honour to be part of the Boomers program. To step into the role of head coach is truly a dream come true,” Caporn said.

“I am deeply grateful to Basketball Australia for their trust in me and to the entire Australian basketball community for the invaluable experiences and opportunities I’ve had from grassroots development to the Olympic stage.

“I want to extend a special thank you to Andrej Lemanis and Brian Goorjian for bringing me into the Boomers coaching staff - your mentorship and contributions to this program have been truly inspiring.

“I’m excited to get to work, building a team that will represent Australia with pride and continue to strengthen the Boomers’ great legacy and culture."

The 42-year-old was a member of the Boomers coaching staff for the past two Olympics in Paris and Tokyo, as well as being head coach of Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence program between 2014 to 2021.

He also coached the Australian Emus under-19 team.

Prior to his 15-year coaching career, Caporn played with both Wollongong/Illawarra Hawks and the Perth Wildcats in the NBL, lining up in a Championship Series in the 2004/2005 season with the Hawks.

Caporn takes over from Brian Goorjian, who stood down following the Boomers’ Olympic campaign in 2024.
