Statement on Cairns v Perth score

Thursday, October 17, 2024
"We own, accept, and take full responsibility for the error made."
The NBL wishes to advise an incorrect score was recorded in the Cairns Taipans v Perth Wildcats game on Thursday, October 10.
The final score should have been 91-87, an increase of 1 point to the winning club, the Wildcats.
There was an error in the process and handling of the scores which wasn't detected until after the game.
The NBL operates under FIBA rules, which prescribe certain ‘correctable errors’, including errors in scorekeeping and failing to record or erroneously recording points (rule 44.2).
FIBA rules also state ‘these errors are no longer correctable after the ball becomes dead when the game clock sounds for the end of the game’ (rule 44.3.2).
As a result, the 90-87 Wildcats’ win stands.
"We own, accept, and take full responsibility for the error made. We take the matter extremely seriously and will continue to educate our personnel on the correct processes and protocols," NBL Chief Operating Officer and Head of Basketball Operations Vince Crivelli said.
