Roth’s apology, admits “poor coaching”

Saturday, October 19, 2024

“It was really poor coaching on my part what I did to him."

Scott Roth has taken a brave step to own up to a poor performance for his treatment of Craig Sword in last night’s defeat to Sydney.

Sword had been forced to sit ice-cold on the bench, unable to get any minutes against the Sydney Kings until Alex Toohey scored five points in a row to put the Kings up 66-59 with 4:49 left on the clock.

Looking for answers with the game slipping away, Roth summoned Sword and put him into the game but confessed it was a bad move in hindsight.

“It was really poor coaching on my part what I did to him, I apologised to him just now,” Roth admitted post game.

“To throw him out there for the last four minutes, it’s not good to do that to a player.

“I put him in a bad spot and it’s a really poor job on my part.”

Roth said he will make up for the error when the JackJumpers play Adelaide.

“I was very comfortable with the guys that were playing and he’ll [Sword] have plenty of moments on Sunday,” he said.

“He should be quite fresh, we will use him the best we can out there and expect him to play well for us.”

Tip-off on Sunday between the JackJumpers and 36ers is 4:30pm AEDT, live on ESPN and 10 BOLD.
