Before we start. You may be keen for a little refresh of how the scoring works. While it may seem daunting, the SuperCoach NBL scoring system is really quite simple. Using the box score stats to calculate an overall score, you'll also get bonus points for double-doubles and triple-doubles, and be penalised for turnovers.

Now let's go back in time.

The first thing that comes to mind is ‘How would the GOAT, Andrew Gaze, stack up as a SuperCoach player?’. The answer is, very, very well.

Is Andrew Gaze the SuperCoach NBL GOAT?

For a point of reference, Andrew Gaze’s highest-scoring season average was in 1987, when he averaged a league-record 44.1 points and was named in the All-NBL First Team. His stat line that season translates to a whopping 63.2-point average SuperCoach score.

That ranks second all-time to Dan Clausen, who had a season average of 63.5 for the Adelaide 36ers in 1984.

Clausen averaged a remarkable 30.5 points, 18 rebounds and 1.7 assists in that year.

For his career, Gaze averaged 46.4 SuperCoach points, with a career-high 89 points for a single game during the 1991 season against the Geelong Supercats – a game in which he scored 51 points, and grabbed 10 assists, 4 rebounds and 7 steals.

Gaze’s 1987 season ranks first in players who have played over 100 NBL games, with the highest career average held by the late Chris Williams – who boasted a SuperCoach NBL average of 52.4 points during the 2002-2003 championship season with the Sydney Kings (38 games).

How do the current players stack up?

Comparing that to the stars of today, both Matthew Dellavedova and Derrick Walton Jr hold the highest single-game SuperCoach score for any current player, tied at 70 points each.

In NBL24, Dellavedova scored 30 points to go with 10 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals in an overtime win over Illawarra

A year earlier, Walton Jr. had 45 points, 10 assists with 10 three-pointers in an instant classic against Mitch Creek and the Phoenix.
