The Adelaide 36ers have appointed Matt Weston as the club's new GM of Basketball Operations.

The Adelaide 36ers have continued the reshuffle of their basketball operations, appointing former San Antonio Spurs scout and current Sturt Sabres general manager Matt Weston as the club’s General Manager of Basketball Operations.

In addition to his time spent as the head of scouting in Asia for the Spurs, he also spent time as the technical director for China’s men’s and women’s national teams for the 2008 Olympics, and 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

Weston is also no stranger to the NBL, having spent time as an assistant coach at the Sydney Kings and the West Sydney Razorbacks in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

“Matt brings a wealth of experience to the club, and he has had similar roles across the world, including stints in the NBA and the NBL,” club CEO Nic Barbato said.

“We are thrilled Matt has decided to join us and we are excited for the future.”

Weston says the potential to build the club’s on-court product has him excited for the role.

“The club has been doing really well off the court, which is the hardest part, so now we have to turn that around and bring some success on the court,” Weston said.

“I’ve met with Grant (Kelley, Adelaide 36ers Executive Chairman) and Nic and the more we spoke about the club and the vision, the more I got energised, the game is in my blood and I’m an Adelaide guy now.”

“The pieces we have got already are good ones.g

“I look forward to getting involved and building towards the future.”

The 36ers have already kicked off their off-season with the reappointment of head coach Scott Ninnis on a two-year contract, and the re-signing of star center Isaac Humphries on a three-year deal.
