At just 20 years of age, it’s clear David Okwera has a bright future in the game. But just where he plays in NBL24 is the big question still to be answered.

According to ESPN Insider, Olgun Uluc, Okwera is attracting interest from the Perth Wildcats and Sydney Kings.

The Wildcats are reportedly in the box seat to sign the 210-centimetre forward, if he opts for a move away from Melbourne.

“They’re (Perth) in talks with David Okwera to potentially join them,” Uluc said on The Marketplace.

“He’s from WA and I’m under the impression they like him a lot. They have a really good developmental plan for him if he joins them … that’s a name that it wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up there. Those negotiations are currently happening.”

Okwera took great strides this season at Melbourne United, and you only needed to look at his numbers to see the growth. He averaged double the points, double the rebounds and double the assists compared to his NBL22 campaign, and started to see more regular game time among a star-studded roster.

He was also part of the Australian Boomers’ squad for the FIBA Asia Cup in 2022.

The Wildcats are reeling from the loss of emerging star Luke Travers, with confirmation he'd be departing the club and exploring his options in Free Agency.
