Mackinnon to depart Phoenix

The South East Melbourne Phoenix have announced Sam Mackinnon will not return to the club’s coaching staff next season.

Mackinnon has served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons, also stepping in as head coach for three games after the departure of Mike Kelly earlier in NBL25. 

Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell thanked Mackinnon for his professionalism and the impact he had on the group during his time with South East Melbourne. 

“Sam played an integral role for the club this season,” Mitchell said. 

“He brought stability and leadership to the team when he assumed the Interim Head Coaching role and was pivotal in setting this team on a pathway to the playoffs. I wish him all the best in his coaching endeavours.”

The Phoenix will finalise their coaching structure over the coming months.
