The Brisbane Bullets are expecting to be without Tanner Krebs for “a period of time” after he suffered a nasty ankle injury in Thursday night’s win over the Perth Wildcats.

Krebs rolled his ankle late in the fourth quarter and had to be helped off the court. While the full extent of the injury is yet to be determined, Bullets interim coach Sam Mackinnon confirmed the club is preparing to be without the 26-year-old for the foreseeable future.

“Tanner won’t be playing on the weekend,” Mackinnon said.

“It's just heartbreaking to see something like that, someone who's just started the third year of his career, starting to get the reward and to have an ankle injury like that.

“That is sport. Unfortunately, he is going to be out for a period of time.”

Guard Jason Cadee added, “it looks pretty bad…they said he gets scans tomorrow.”

Mackinnon secured his first win as interim coach in the 106-95 victory against the Wildcats.

Brisbane dominated in overtime, outscoring the Wildcats 14-3, bouncing back from last week’s 37-point to New Zealand.

With the departure of former coach James Duncan last week, and key pieces Aron Baynes and Tyrell Harrison out, the Bullets were able to provide their fans some much needed joy.

“It was such a big week last week and no prep time for the players to adapt to what I’ve wanted out of them,” Mackinnon said.

“We played through certain guys that just predict the way that we’re going to play, and everyone played their roles.

“I think we just saw the intent different from all the guys just changed the line-up.”

Cadee reflected on the struggles the Bullets experienced over the last week.

“Last week became a blur for us, there’s a lot that went on, we went through a lot,” Cadee said.

“When you throw in the fact we were missing two of our anchors defensively, Baynesy and Tyrell have had such a big impact defensively on our group.

“We haven’t ever been through that in a career, coaching change Sammy walk in and says, I put my hand up, I’m going to do it, and so it was a bit of a mess.

“We go play New Zealand and it just became a mess really quickly. It was one of those things that, going through that was almost good for our group.”

The Bullets are back at home on Sunday to play the Tasmania JackJumpers at 4:00pm AEDT.
