In week one of the 2023 NBA 2K League season, NBL Oz Gaming’s ‘Jyden’ McBath-Spencer has been named Player of the Week.

In week one of the 2023 NBA 2K League season, NBL Oz Gaming’s ‘Jyden’ McBath-Spencer has been named Player of the Week.

In the NBL’s inaugural campaign, the team has won three straight series and rocketed through the first week.

Jyden was a clear leader in all three series, dominating nearly every game with his scoring. Over the three series, he has scored an overall of 162 points.

His stats and overall play made him a clear contender for receiving the Player of the Week in his second professional season.

He commented on the smooth transition into the NBL Oz Gaming team, with new head coach Mitchell ‘Mootyy’ Franklin.

“Mootyy might be a rookie head coach, I know he had the assistant job, but the guys a natural,” Jyden said.

“He knows what he’s doing, and I knew that from day one.

“He just comes in and knows how to balance it.

“He’s a guy I can talk to outside of the game as well.”

Jyden mentioned the communication with his teammates has been the key so far to help him control the offence and focus on finding spaces to shoot.

“I love the fact that I have people that I can throw the ball too and they can make a play for myself,” Jyden said.

“They have that respect for me and I have that respect for them.”

The NBL has captured the attention of everyone with their relationship as a team and have quickly created a strong culture and vibe.

“If we go into every game with the mindset that we can win and we communicate, I don’t think there’s a way we can lose a game,” Jyden said.

“If we bring that attitude into it, there’s no way a team can mess with us. As long as we’re on our stuff.

“We all have talented players on our group, there’s nobody else like us here in my opinion.”

Jyden went up against his former team last week, the NetsGC, but remained head strong with a pre-game pep talk from coach Mootyy.

“Mootyy grabbed me and sat me down and he was like, I know you’re playing against your former team, I know you want to show up, but don’t make it too much of a team, don’t tweak out if something doesn’t go your way,” he said.

“I appreciated that because I did have a lot of nerves going in.”

NBL Oz Gaming will next go head-to-head with Lakers Gaming on Wednesday at 12:45pm AEDT.
