"We haven’t had any scans, but Sam’s in good spirits, we’re in good spirits for him."

What looked somewhat of an innocuous incident during the second quarter of Wednesday’s game has led to a devastating blow for Illawarra big Sam Froling.

Froling landed awkwardly receiving an inbound pass during Game 4 of the Championship Series, hobbling from the court soon after.

In sad news for the 25-year-old, he looks to have suffered a serious achilles injury.

“My EMT told me that it’s an achilles situation,” Illawarra coach Justin Tatum said.

“We haven’t had any scans, but Sam’s in good spirits, we’re in good spirits for him … were just hopeful for his recovery maybe not for Game 5, but for his professional career.”

“We’re with him and we’re going to get this done for him,” Will Hickey said following the Hawks’ win.

“I just feel for Frols. He’s a great young player that’s worked really hard, so I hope he’s alright,” Melbourne United’s Matthew Dellavedova added.

Froling is one of the Hawks’ most important players, named in the All-NBL Second Team this season.
