Days declares Hawks championship

Friday, September 6, 2024
"I'm gonna say it right now today, we're gonna bring the championship back here."
New Illawarra Hawks import Darius Days is lacking no confidence on the eve of the new season, vowing to lead the club to its first title since 2001.
"I'm gonna say it right now today, we're gonna bring the championship back here," Days told the Illawarra Mercury.
"But at first it's gonna be a little rocky, we got to figure out everybody and what they bring to the table and we got to start playing better as a team and after that, the sky is the limit."
After a fairytale run last season ended in heartbreaking fashion with a Playoff loss to Melbourne United, the Hawks will be hoping Days can help the team take the next step in NBL25.
Days joined the Hawks earlier this week, after impressing against them while playing for the Shanghai Sharks in a pre-season clash last month.
After playing for the Houston Rockets in the 2022/23 season, the 24-year-old spent last season in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds per game.
Illawarra’s campaign begins on September 21 against the Cairns Taipans at HoopsFest in Perth.
