'Cats eye "easy fixes"

Tuesday, December 24, 2024
“Everyone knows after that game they have to be better individually and as a team."
It was only a few days ago when Jesse Wagstaff admitted the Wildcats weren’t doing enough of what was required - and it’s now clear just where Perth's focus will be when it takes on Adelaide on Saturday night.
“We haven’t done a good job of doing the little things like hustle plays, jumping on loose balls ... so that’s something we can look at and try to fix,” Hyrum Harris said on Tuesday.
“That’s an easy fix, it’s just energy and effort. It’s not x’s and o’s.”
Harris backed up Wagstaff’s strong comments, solidifying the need for the squad to hone in on the things that don't show up on the stat sheet.
The Wildcats suffered a 32-point loss to the Hawks on Sunday, just three points shy of their biggest loss in the 40-minute era.
But Harris is adamant the ‘Cats can turn things around, and quickly.
“Everyone knows after that game they have to be better individually and as a team. You’d be silly to look at yourself after that game and think ‘I played perfectly’,” he said.
“It’s only one game ... championships aren’t won in December.”
The Wildcats will head to Adelaide to face Kendric Davis, Montrezl Harrell and the 36ers, and while Mike Wells' team is struggling when it comes to the standings, in eighth, there's no doubting how dangerous they can be.
Harris pointed to Harrell as a huge factor in the game.
“He’s the perfect challenge. Like I said, energy and effort is something we need to be better in and something he’s really good at - the energy plays,” Harris continued.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better challenge than someone like that.”
It's Adelaide hosting Perth this Saturday night at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, this Saturday night from 8pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
