Rucker open to Bullets coaching role

Thursday, February 20, 2025
“Would I coach the Bullets if provided the opportunity? Certainly I would think about it."
Derek Rucker has revealed he is “certainly” open to being in the Brisbane Bullets' head coaching race, if the opportunity was presented to him.
Justin Schueller and the Bullets parted ways earlier this week, with Bullets CEO Mal Watts explaining “we are committed to ensuring we have the best direction in place to drive our team forward and deliver a strong and competitive season”.
Former Sydney Kings captain Brad Rosen threw Rucker's name into the mix for the Bullets role, with the 1990 NBL MVP confirming he would be interested in the job.
“Would I coach the Bullets if provided the opportunity? Certainly I would think about it," Rucker said on NBL Now.
"There are only 10 jobs in this country and all of those guys are honoured and privileged to have an opportunity to do what they love, and challenge themselves, get a group of young guys to a destination where everybody is trying to get to.”
Rucker had two playing stints for Brisbane, first in 1990-1991, and then again in 2003-2006.
