"When Josh walked in, we all believe exactly what he’s saying and we buy into that."

From five straight losses to begin the season, to four wins in their last five games, the South East Melbourne Phoenix are one of the hottest teams in the league.

Star guard Nathan Sobey believes that his team is following the example of new head coach Josh King, and the rest is taking care of itself.

“When Josh walked in, we all believe exactly what he’s saying and we buy into that,” Sobey said following the win over Perth.

“His philosophy and energy that he brings has really got us getting after it on both ends of the floor.

“The energy that he’s brought in has been great for us. We really feel that when we need a spark or when things aren’t going our way.”

Sobey himself seems to be relishing in King’s system, having come off two of his best performances of the year. That included the game-winning in Tasmania on Friday.

“Bringing in eight new guys into a team is never easy ... it took a little longer than we probably thought, but at the end of the day it’s sport and you just have to keep getting better every day,” the veteran said.

Through the tough start to the season and all the outside noise, Sobey praised his team's ability to block it all out and continue to work together.

“The resilience,” Sobey said about what he’s most proud of about the team.

“The group stuck together through everything that was happening.”

Sobey was also selected to once again represent the Boomers during the upcoming FIBA window and it’s an opportunity that he doesn’t take lightly.

“I’m definitely excited,” he added.

“I put my hand up straight away any chance I can get. I’m super stoked and cant wait for that window. It’s always a great time when you get to play for your country.”
