New Zealand Breakers star Will McDowell-White has impressed Australian basketball legend Andrew Gaze, who believes the point guard is a strong contender to become an Australian Boomer at this year's World Cup.

McDowell-White has made an immense impact for the Breakers this season, averaging 10.6 points, 6.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds, while also shining on the defensive end.

McDowell-White’s performance has aided the Breakers to the Playoffs, which has prompted Gaze to support McDowell-White’s World Cup aspirations.

“He is definitely in the mix,” Gaze told The Daily Telegraph.

“He is highly regarded, and I think he has only enhanced his reputation this year at the Breakers…he has good size, good composure under pressure and he can shoot it.

“When you think of the future as this generation passes through, he is in that age bracket where if he continues this path, you wouldn’t want to be backing against him being an Olympian at some stage.”

Gaze praised McDowell-White’s style of basketball and applauded the guard’s defensive ability and high basketball IQ.

McDowell-White will be leading the Breakers tonight against the Tasmania JackJumpers in Game 2 of their best-of-three Playoff series. If the Breakers win tonight’s game, they will advance to the Championship Series.
