Macdonald extends JackJumpers stay

Thursday, May 2, 2024
Sean Macdonald has extended his contract with the Tasmania JackJumpers by a further season.
Sean Macdonald was already set to be elevated to Tasmania’s main roster for NBL25, however the JackJumpers have extended the young guard’s contract for an additional season to link him to the club until the end of NBL26.
Macdonald has spent three seasons as a development player for the JackJumpers, and the club’s investment in him has seen him consistently labelled as Tasmania’s ‘Next Star’ by head coach Scott Roth.
He played a crucial role in Tasmania’s NBL24 title triumph and was brought into the starting line-up for the do-or-die Game 5 clash with Melbourne United.
“It would be an understatement to say we’re very proud of Sean and his development in the last three years,” JackJumpers General Manager of Basketball Mika Vukona said.
"He has embraced everything our program is about, and he is proof of what can be achieved when you buy in and put in the work.
“He has flourished in our system and this new contract is due reward for his efforts, and our faith in what’s to come for him over the coming seasons.
“Extending his contract was a no brainer for both parties and we’re looking forward to watching his growth and impact continue to track in the right direction.”
In addition to being named an NBL champion, Macdonald was named as the NBL’s Most Improved Player in NBL24 following a prior nomination for the award in NBL23.
He appeared in all 37 games for the JackJumpers last season, and averaged eight points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
He says he’s looking forward to continuing his journey with Tasmania.
“I’m really happy to be extending my time in Tassie,” Macdonald said.
“It’s taken a huge amount of work to achieve what we have over the last few years, and it’s been an unbelievable ride so far.
“I think my growth and improvement is a testament to the program and the investment the coaches, players and staff have in me, and I’m excited about what’s to come over the next few years.”
