All eyes will be on Sydney and Illawarra’s first clash of the 2022/2023 campaign, with Justin Simon’s move to the Kings further intensifying an already brewing rivalry.

The star guard returns to the NBL after a year in Germany, looking to emulate the form of his 2020/2021 season at the Hawks, when he won the Damian Martin Award as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Simon says he’ll feel like a “villain” returning to the WIN Entertainment Centre.

“That game (against the Hawks) is going to be great and to me I now like to think that I’m on the better side of NSW.”

The 26-year-old was courted by NBA champion Luc Longley, coach Chase Buford and CEO Chris Pongrass.

“They made me feel wanted,” he said of the Kings’ organisation.

“What really sold me to join the Kings was the coach, the system and the style of play.”

Simon averaged eight points, five rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes of action during his stint at the Hawks.
