Goulding Greatness Spanning Generations

Chris Goulding has become an institution of the NBL over his almost 20-year career.
Chris Goulding has become an institution of the NBL over his almost 20-year career.. With over 400 games played, over 1000 threes hit and three championship rings – plus an Olympic bronze medal in his back pocket – Goulding is one of the best local talents of the modern NBL era.
The new signing of Flynn Cameron to Melbourne United showcases just how long Goulding has been plying his trade at the top level. Not just because Cameron was just six years old when the veteran debuted in the competition, but because Cameron’s father – Pero – played with ‘CG43’ at the Gold Coast Blaze.
“It’s awesome to get the opportunity to play with him,” Cameron told News Corp of Goulding. “Having been around him going back to the Blaze days and seeing everything he’s accomplished since then – it feels really special.
“He played with and then was coached by my dad … I just remember being a little kid [and] having interactions with him.
“I’d play the little kid card, maybe fake a little cry to get his attention.”

Cameron has earmarked both Goulding and fellow New Zealand Tall Black Shea Ili as the two players he’s looking forward to working with the most.
“Shea’s one of the best defenders in the league, and then having Chris Goulding at the two, I feel like I’ve got the best of both worlds in terms of learning from two of the elite guards of the competition.
“There’s a lot that goes into being a pro and I think these are two of the best guys to learn from.
“I’m just excited to learn from the best.”
Cameron has joined former Brisbane Bullet Tanner Krebs and returning centre Jo Lual-Acuil Jr in signing for Untied ahead of NBL24, while David Okwera, Mason Peatling and Makuach Maluach have departed the club.
