The New Zealand Breakers have continued the transformation of their roster, announcing the signing of Jarrell Brantley.

At 201 centimetres and 113 kilograms, Brantley is an imposing figure on the court, and was a standout for the LA Clippers during the recent NBA Summer League.

Brantley boasts extensive NBA experience at the Utah Jazz, appearing 41 times across two seasons, including four playoff games from 2019 to 2021.

Breakers’ coach Mody Maor said the 26-year-old was his number one target to replace departing forward Finn Delany.

"Jarrell Brantley is exactly the player I was looking for, and our discussions with him started a very long time ago. I am thrilled we've been able to bring him to the Breakers for the new season," Maor told the club’s website.

"His role in Summer League and his role with the Breakers will be completely different, and I am looking forward to unlocking all his potential."

In 2020, Brantley was named in the All-NBA G League First Team and the NBA G League All-Rookie Team.

"His resume reflects his skill and talent and physical capabilities, which will be clear to everyone who watches our games," Maor said.

"What most people don't know is how tough, how competitive, and how good a leader and culture setter Jarrell is.  He will be taking a dominant leadership role in our group and moulding the team into a tough competitive unit."

Brantley joins a Breakers' roster with a strong kiwi core, including Tom Abercrombie, Rob Loe, Sam Timmins, Izayah Le’afa, Tom Vodanovich and Dan Fotu.

Australian Will McDowell-White is coming off an impressive tournament with the Boomers at the Asia Cup, while the experienced Cam Gliddon, French Next Star Rayan Rupert and import Dererk Pardon round out the current roster.

New Zealand has one import spot to fill ahead of the 2022/2023 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season.
