Melbourne development player Campbell Blogg has already made history through signing for United, and in Thursday night’s opening night Throwdown with South East Melbourne he could once again re-write the history books.

Blogg’s rise through the Victorian basketball ranks over the last two years has been staggering. The 19-year-old captained the Sandringham Sabres to an NBL1 South Grand Final appearance this past season, and has become the first Hoop City U Development Program graduate to sign a contract with an NBL club.

The Hoop City U program is an NBL accredited training and development program that is available for players aged four and up, and run by former Boomers representative and NBL champion Luke Kendall.

Blogg says his time working with Hoop City has been crucial in his ability to reach the level where he could sign an NBL contract.

“Hoop City has just done so much for me. I can credit all their work and how much time they’ve put into me,” he said.

“When I first came here, I was probably just strictly a shooter, now I can say I’m more comfortable with the ball in my hands and being a playmaker.

“Even last season in NBL1 I would come off the bench and just shoot, this season I’ve got the ball in my hands more and running the offence when our main guard is out, and I just feel so much more comfortable.

“Ever since I was a kid I didn’t make all the top teams in rep and I always stuck to my work and kept my head down and kept going, and it’s all been from hard work.

“There are no place like it, you’ve got local clubs playing domestic leagues every night so to come down here in an afternoon after school or after work is so good, I live five minutes away and it (Hoop City) is the best thing that could have possibly happened to me.”

Blogg hit the ground running in United’s pre-season preparation and scored 18 points in his first pre-season appearance – played against Tasmania in August.

He also made one appearance at the Hungry Jack’s NBL Blitz.
