Why Kings voided Turner contract

"There was no way he could walk into this thing physically."

Sydney Kings coach Brian Goorjian has revealed Lamonte Turner wasn’t physically ready to walk into the NBL season, despite the club working him out twice.

Sydney announced on Thursday morning Turner’s contract had been voided, after he signed as an import last week.

“I met him, worked him out twice, ticked all the boxes but there was no way he could walk into this thing physically,” Goorjian said to the broadcast team before Thursday night’s clash between the Kings and United.

Sydney CEO Chris Pongrass further explained why Turner was cut on the same day he was set to make his club debut.

"It's pretty simple, to be honest, we brought him in, we go through the rigours of a medical and a physical and a conditioning session and he didn't pass it," Pongrass said

"We want someone that can come in, play games and contribute. We weren't able to get that done. It's pretty simple that we don't want to have someone that's just there and unable to be utilised.

"There's only so much you can know about someone coming in, in terms of a conditioning and medical stand-point. We rely on a lot of things. Of course there's some things in our processes that we've got to go back on.

"It's obviously not an ideal situation. We expected someone to come in and be a nice connecting piece but the group took it really well."
