White open to Melbourne return

Jack White has just inked a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, but he hasn't ruled out a return to Melbourne United.

Former Melbourne United forward Jack White has been handed another NBA opportunity in the form of a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, but the athletic Australian says he wants to return to the NBL – when the time is right.

White played two games as a development player with the Cairns Taipans prior to embarking on a four-year collegiate career with Duke. He then played 37 games for Melbourne, prior to signing for the Denver Nuggets on a two-way contract.

He endured an injury-hit campaign for G-League side South Bay this past season, and has been linked with a return to United, should the Cleveland Cavaliers take their option on current Melbourne forward Luke Travers.

But it doesn’t have to be a case of one out, one in.

White told News Corp he hasn’t ruled out an eventual return to the club with which he won the 2021 NBL title.

“I’m definitely interested in going back to Melbourne, that definitely feels like my home away from home, my home in the NBL,” White said.

“Melbourne’s not a normal club. They emphasise the right things, the culture, the family, the feeling around, it’s something I’m a big fan of and I’ve benefitted from.”

“It’s just a matter of timing, whether things match up well, whether things make sense … in terms of what that looks like, I’m not exactly sure.”
