White on NBA-bound Travers: "He's earned it"

Jack White says Luke Travers has enjoyed the perfect preparation to succeed in the biggest league in the world.

Jack White has some simple words of advice for Luke Travers ahead of his time in the NBA; “enjoy it”.

Travers is set to sign a two-way deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, following a similar path to White, who returns an NBA champion after two years in the USA.

White played 21 games in the NBA and over 100 in the G-League, and just like Travers, graduated from the Melbourne United program.

“He’s there for a reason, he’s earned that position from his play,” White said of Travers’ opportunity.

“Luke’s such a unique player … he does so many things well, so I think if he just goes out there and plays hard and brings what he does well to the table, I don’t think he’ll have any issues shining in whatever role that comes his way.”

White says Travers has enjoyed the perfect preparation to succeed in the biggest league in the world, having played five seasons at a high level in the NBL.

It’s hard to believe Travers is still just 22, after becoming a mainstay with the Perth Wildcats since arriving as a teenager, before stepping up his game once again at United.

“I think he’s more than ready for it. I’m excited for him. He deserves it all,” White said.

Melbourne coach Dean Vickerman said Travers couldn’t be more deserving of his chance.

“It was a goal when he came to us to put him in a position to go to the NBA,” Vickerman added.

“I’m super-proud of him and what he achieved with us.”

Travers had an impressive NBL24 campaign, averaging 12.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.1 steals a game.
