Vickerman: "We'll remember" Phoenix comments

Monday, October 21, 2024

"I’d be disappointed if one of our owners made personal comments about another team’s player on social media."

Melbourne United coach Dean Vickerman has fired back at Romie Chaudhari, after the South East Melbourne Phoenix owner called Chris Goulding “weak” via social media.

Vickerman said his team would “remember” the comments ahead of the next Throwdown in December.

On Sunday, Chaudhari took to X, stating “Goulding constantly flops and cries about it, that sh*t is weak”.

Vickerman responded strongly via Code Sports.

“I’d be disappointed if one of our owners made personal comments about another team’s player on social media,” he said. “It’s something we’ll remember.”

Chaudhari was responding to a clip of Goulding tangled up with Phoenix centre Jordan Hunter under the ring during an attempted rebound, after which he crashed to the floor in pain. Hunter received a common foul, but Goulding remained visibly upset.

South East Melbourne claimed its first win of the season on Sunday under interim coach Sam Mackinnon, and is expected to name its new head coach this week.

ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported the club had signed Josh King on a multi-year deal.

King was most recently head coach of Darüşşafaka in the Turkish Basketball Super League.

The Phoenix next host Melbourne United on December 15 at John Cain Arena, with a Sunday afternoon blockbuster on the cards.
