Melbourne United has landed former NBL Rookie of the Year, Isaac Humphries, for the 2022/2023 NBL Season.

Humphries had an injury-affected tenure at the Adelaide 36ers, playing just six games last season due to a knee injury, but says he’s back to full fitness heading into a new campaign.

A foot injury restricted him impact in 2021/2022, as he played 19 of a possible 36 games.

“I’m healthy and ready to play,” Humphries told Melbourne United’s website.

“There’s no reason fans can’t expect really strong basketball from me. I think everybody is going to see when I hit the court that my game has evolved and improved.

“I want to come out and prove a lot this year after the past couple of seasons, so to know I’ll have the support from the fans means a lot.”

Humphries looked like an MVP candidate over his first 11 games of the 21/22 season, averaging 17.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game, before injury struck.

He previously won the NBL's Rookie of the Year Award in the 2017/2018 Season, while playing at the Sydney Kings.

The now 24-year-old also spent time in the NBA at the Atlanta Hawks in 2019.

“Isaac is a great player who we know can have a huge impact on the game at both ends of the floor," United coach Dean Vickerman said.

“He is someone that can score around the hoop well, and whose defensive IQ will mesh perfectly with what we want to do at United.

“After spending some time with him in America, we’re confident that we’re bringing in the best, most healthy version of Isaac that the league has ever seen.”
