Throwdown XXI sold out

Tuesday, September 19, 2023
"Since the beginning of the rivalry, being a part of these Throwdown games has been very special."
It's still nine days until the start of the Hungry Jack's NBL season, but Throwdown XXI has already sold out, with a capacity crowd to fill John Cain Arena next Thursday.
Melbourne United will host the South East Melbourne Phoenix to tip off the NBL24 season, with over 10,000 fans expected to be packed into the stadium.
Chris Goulding, who has played in 19 of the clubs' 20 Throwdown matchups, said renewing the rivalry will be extra special this year.
"Since the beginning of the rivalry, being a part of these Throwdown games has been very special,” he told Melbourne United's website.
“There's always a sense that these games mean a lot to both organisations, to both sets of fanbases, and to know that come game one we're going to have over 10,000 fans in the building, it's really cool for us as athletes and the wider basketball community in general."
These sentiments were echoed by Melbourne United CEO Nick Truelson.
“The anticipation for Throwdown XXI is something that should have everyone who loves this sport excited,” he said.
“It’s our purpose at Melbourne United to inspire, entertain and enrich people’s lives through the power of basketball, and to know that we’re going to have over 10,000 members, partners and fans in at JCA, seeing the MU brand of basketball on court & entertainment off court is very special.”
The game will pit the likes of Matthew Dellavedova, Luke Travers and Goulding, against Mitch Creek, Tyler Cook and Gary Browne.
Fans that missed out on tickets to Throwdown XXI will be able to watch the match, and every game of the NBL24 season, live on ESPN via Kayo and Foxtel.
