The secret Sauce to stop JackJumpers star

Friday, October 13, 2023
South East Melbourne's Alan Williams has praised Milton Doyle's game-breaking ability on NBL Overtime.
South East Melbourne play Tasmania on Saturday evening, and injured Phoenix centre Alan Williams has called on his side to not let Milton Doyle beat them.
Doyle starred in Round 2 against Sydney and Melbourne, and was the leading vote-winner from the round’s Chemist Warehouse Fans MVP voting. He was also named as Foot Locker Player of the Game on both occasions.
Despite not hitting the scoresheet to his full potential in the opening three quarters of the game, Doyle exploded for 14 points in the final quarter against United, and helped his side cruise to victory against Illawarra on Thursday night.
“It’s a perfect example of 'who do you want to beat you?'” Williams said on NBL Overtime. “If I’m anybody playing against the JackJumpers, I don’t want it to be him.
“He gets downhill with ease, reads the pick and roll, his best thing is his ability to play at his own pace and always make the right reads – similar to a Bryce Cotton.
“He’s just a guy who’s super clutch when his team needs him.”
Doyle found massive success in the final quarter against United when running a high pick and roll, but Williams says his team will attempt to handle Doyle’s scoring threat in a different fashion.
“For what it’s worth, United didn’t do anything to try and stop them,” he said.
“They didn’t trap the ball and get him off of it, they had Hukporti still back in a drop without a hand to contest.
“I was watching the game like ‘what’s going on?’.
“We’re playing the Jackies this week, and we’re going to be up.”
South East Melbourne plays Tasmania on Saturday at 8pm AEDT, live on ESPN via Kayo.
