Newly signed development player Campbell Blogg is turning heads at Melbourne United, with assistant coach Jacob Chance saying he is “excited” to see the 19-year-old’s improvement over the course of NBL24.
After turning down collegiate offers to stay with Melbourne as a train-on player for NBL23, Blogg's performances on the training court and with Sandringham in NBL1 South saw him earn a DP contract for the upcoming season.
Despite this being the first off-season Blogg has experienced heading into a professional campaign, he’s already well-embedded within United’s setup.
Uncontracted forward David Barlow and assistant coach Rhys Carter are both involved with the Sabres at NBL1 level, where, despite his tender age, Blogg holds the captaincy.
Fresh off of stints with the San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets, Chance says he’s been impressed early with Blogg’s abilities.
“I didn’t know a lot about him, but seeing him the past couple of days it’s clear that he’s put in a lot of work both from a physical standpoint and a skill development standpoint,” Chance told Melbourne United Media of the young guard.
“I’m sure the last year he spent with the club has really put him in a good place to succeed moving forward.
“I’m excited by the way he competes and gets after it every possession – which is what you want to see coming from a guy looking to grow as a pro.”
Blogg’s first opportunity to represent his new club in the NBL will come in the new campaign’s season opener against local rivals South East Melbourne on Thursday, September 28.
