Scheduled selections

Blokes

Brisbane continues its competition-best schedule with another seven doubles in a row. New Zealand will also continue its healthy schedule with six doubles across the next seven rounds.

Planning ahead, the Illawarra Hawks may have a single game this week, but the schedule then ramps up with five straight double-game rounds. Hawks’ ownership is low due to the recent light schedule, if you are looking to target some unique selections!

It’s finally time to jump off that Perth Wildcats stack as they begin a run of four straight single-game rounds. Bryce being the exception, who is on a tear and heads into a favourable game against Cairns with a low breakeven.

Melbourne United has a double this week, before three straight single game rounds. Like Perth, ensure you have an exit strategy.

And finally, be conscious of how much cash you have remaining in the kitty. Adelaide begins a stretch of six doubles over seven weeks from Round 13, and you won’t want to miss out on your share of Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis!

Trade targets

Kendric Davis (GRD) ADL $481,600
Davis now has consecutive 60 SuperCoach point games; these are both in the top 50 scores in the modern 40-minute era. They also set up KD to reach an astronomical price next week, being the first two games counted in his three-game rolling average that determines his pricing. The 36ers are about to start an excellent schedule run where Davis will absolutely be must-own. You need him next round, but we also expect that you will get a discount doing it this week, so consider Kendric!

Montrezl Harell (FWD/CTR) ADL $438,400
Trezz is in a slightly different scenario to Davis, which is why we wanted to highlight him here. He is certainly a trade target, but we feel as though you can wait a week before picking him up. Whereas you are getting a discount by getting KD early, we think there is a decent chance to pick Harrell up slightly cheaper next round. Perhaps with your Cotton cash? Make sure you are tracking Trezz this round.

Tyrell Harrison (CTR) BRI $303,300
This one is a reminder to those who elected to trade Tyrell during his absence with illness. Given the perfect Brisbane schedule over the next seven rounds of the season, having Harrison in your center position throughout is a viable strategy. He looked back in form last round and should hopefully average us 30-plus for the remainder of the season.

Nick Marshall (FWD) ADL $118,500
We will need to monitor the injury news to see how Sunday Dech’s hamstring injury is, but considering the 36ers are already without DJ due to a Hamstring also, we think Marshall has excellent short to medium term value. Last round Marshall played his two highest minute totals of the season resulting in his two highest SuperCoach scores of the year. This opportunity looks set to continue, so perhaps the SuperCoach points will continue to follow.

Mason Peatling (FWD) ILL $111,300
Unlike Marshall, Peatling’s recently found opportunity has been found in a fully fit Hawks lineup. Since taking the starting role in the last three contests, Peatling has had his three highest minute totals; and once again that has correlated with his three highest SuperCoach scores for the season. Whilst we think that Marshall has slightly higher short-term upside, he also appears to have less ongoing job security than Peatling. Regardless, both are solid trade targets this round.

Boydie’s questions and answers

Question: If you can only bring in one of Kendric Davis or Montrezl Harrell, which one do you choose?
Answer: All of us are in agreement that Davis is the priority. The guard position is about to lose Bryce Cotton from the must own category due to Perth’s poor upcoming schedule; and PJC is showing some signs of slowing down as the season progresses. This leaves Davis a clear 1-A in the short term. We think that there are some forwards that can compete with Harrell’s output over various parts of the remaining schedule. Ideally, we will be building towards owning both; we suggest you get Davis now and work towards Trezz in the near term where he will still remain a trade target for us?

Question: Do we sell Bryce Cotton this week? What are the arguments for and against selling him?
Answer: There are two reasons to sell Bryce. The schedule and lack of games being played by Perth over the next four rounds is the primary factor. The secondary reason is being able to spend those “Bryce Bucks” elsewhere on your starting court. You can certainly keep and start Bryce on a single-game this week, but in reality, we would expect players like Keandre Cook, Casey Prather, Nathan Sobey and others that play two games this week to score similarly, if not better, than Bryce. You can get the same number of points at your guard position and use the additional funds to target an upgrade in your forward position for example.

Question: I want to pick some players that might be a point of difference this round. Are there any good players to spot start for a week?
Answer: A spot start alternative to Jack White that we don’t mind is Matt Hurt from SEM this week. He feels slightly safer than the in-form Rob Loe of United. One player that has stepped up in the absence of Chris Goulding is Matthew Dellavedova. Delly typically plays well against SEM and should carry a heavy burden against the Hawks. We would take the slight discount that Delly provides over Shea Ili this week.
