Sleepless nights, but all's Wells

“Lat has done everything that has been asked of him ... and I didn’t want him to feel like it was something that he did."

The Adelaide 36ers rolled out a fresh looking starting five on Thursday night and while it helped lead them to their first win, it was a change that Mike Wells struggled to make.

“I didn’t sleep last night to be honest with you,” Wells said.

Lat Mayen was moved to the bench in the place of Montrezl Harrell to begin the game for Adelaide. It was the first time both Harrell and Isaac Humphries had been on the floor together this season.

“I just had a gut feeling that maybe this was the team (to make that decision against),” Wells added.

When asked why it was such a hard decision to make, Wells was clear that he wanted to make sure his players didn’t think any more of this decision than what it was.

“Lat has done everything that has been asked of him in practice and I didn’t want him to feel like it was something that he did.

“It was more of us just trying to get a matchup.”

The 36ers got off to a dream start in their first home game, finding themselves up by 20 points in the first half. It was Isaac Humphries who bounced back from his slow start to the season and led the team with 14 points at half-time.

“There was a focus on going into the paint and getting 'Ice' active,” Wells said.

With their first win locked away, all attention turns to Saturday night when the 36ers take on the undefeated Illawarra Hawks in Wollongong.

“I think it’s another great opportunity for our group. It comes at us really fast ... we will go over there and give it our best shot.”
