NBL Next Star Rayan Rupert has been cleared to return for the New Zealand Breakers in Wednesday night’s game against the Perth Wildcats.
NBL Next Star Rayan Rupert has been cleared to return for the New Zealand Breakers in Wednesday night’s game against the Perth Wildcats.
Rupert suffered a wrist injury to his right hand earlier this season and has been sidelined since round six.
The projected first round NBA draft pick claims he is a “better player” after working on his left hand whilst recovering.
“I think I’m a better player because I worked very hard physically on my left hand, so I think I’m a better player,” Rupert said.
“I’m very happy to be able to play again with my teammates.”
New Zealand coach Mody Maor added the club will help ease Rupert back into the line-up.
Maor is positive Rupert will make an impact for the second on the ladder Breakers, however acknowledges the French youngster may take time to find his feet again.
“I’m very much hoping that Rayan comes back a better player, but we’re not putting that much pressure on him,” Maor said.
“To play his role, his role means defend, compete, play extremely hard, if there’s mistakes coming from sitting on the sideline, then that’s okay too.
“Whatever the cards were dealt that’s the one we play, cast on the right hand, we’re going to work on the left hand, can’t play basketball, we’re going to get his strength and conditioning right.
“It’s a big challenge for a kid and I’m sure Rayan is up to it.”
Rupert and the Breakers host the Wildcats on Wednesday night at 5:30pm AEDT.
