Report: Sobey to depart Bullets

Friday, March 29, 2024

ESPN's Olgun Uluc has reported Nathan Sobey will depart the Brisbane Bullets for South East Melbourne ahead of NBL25.

Star Brisbane Bullet Nathan Sobey will reportedly depart the club, according to Olgun Uluc and News Corp, and will join South East Melbourne ahead of the NBL25 season.

ESPN has reported both player and club expressed a desire to part ways following an NBL24 in which Brisbane missed out on Finals on percentage, and the Phoenix will now pay a small buyout in order to make the move happen, in a similar fashion to how New Zealand recently acquired former Cairns big Sam Mennenga.

Sobey was named Brisbane’s club MVP on Thursday night, with news of his move to South East Melbourne breaking the morning after.

The Phoenix have already been proactive in this off-season. The bottom-placed finishers in NBL24 had mutually parted ways with star center Alan Williams, and announced the departures of Rhys Vague and Anzac Rissetto prior to Sobey’s reported move breaking.

Sobey was named to the All-NBL Second Team this past season.
