The 36ers coach and star reportedly had a "heated verbal exchange".

Adelaide 36ers coach Mike Wells and star point guard Kendric Davis had a “heated verbal exchange” after Monday’s win over the Illawarra Hawks, according to ESPN.

ESPN reports the incident occurred in the Adelaide locker-room after the game, with Davis defending a teammate who Wells gave “harsh criticism toward”.

Davis is having a sensational debut season and is a contender to win the MVP, averaging 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game.

The Sixers are 10-12 and sit in 8th spot, with every game vital as they look to make the Finals. They face the Perth Wildcats on Friday night at 9:30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
