"Our best ever home game" - Roth

"These guys just continue to show up and fight and scrap despite the adversity and obstacles."

The Tasmania JackJumpers were without perhaps their two most important players, had lost two straight and trailed the Adelaide 36ers by as much as 14 so it's hard to argue with Scott Roth that it was their best MyState Bank Arena NBL game.

The JackJumpers have produced some stunning performances in almost four seasons in the NBL including upsetting Melbourne United in their first ever playoff battle and then winning the championship last season.

The odds might never have quite been so against them, though, as they were without Will Magnay and Sean Macdonald who have now been ruled out for the rest of the regular season.

They were also fresh off two losses already this week and it was a 36ers team coming to Hobart in hot form.

Tasmania then found themselves 14 points down early in the third quarter and still down seven with just over a minute to play.

That's where the JackJumpers showed all the heart, spirit and fighting qualities they've built over four years firstly to score the last seven points of regulation to force overtime on a massive Majok Deng three.

Then in overtime, the JackJumpers were down one when they had one last chance with 4.4 seconds left. It was on an offensive rebound that they won, a second attempt by Milton Doyle, and it was a win that Roth was still digesting afterwards.

"It's obviously a remarkable win and as I've always said, a team with high character guys that are humble and hungry, and do the right things, you'll go to bat with them any time," Roth said.

"These guys just continue to show up and fight and scrap despite the adversity and obstacles you deal with throughout a season.

"This is probably one of the greatest games that I've ever been part of to be quite honest with you and without question the best home game ever here in this building.

"Being proud would be an understatement of our guys and their fight, but I know the character of this group and we just are not going to go away."

This had the potential to be a week that blew the JackJumpers season apart.

Firstly their eight-game winning streak ended on Sunday at the hands of the South East Melbourne Phoenix before 48 hours later they lost on the road to the Illawarra Hawks.

From that game on Tuesday, Macdonald injured his foot to see his regular season end and join Magnay on the sidelines ahead of hosting a firing Adelaide team fresh off big wins over Sydney and Melbourne.

The JackJumpers shook that off to start in blistering fashion with a 30-22 third quarter and willed themselves to force overtime and find a way to win.

What Roth loved was the players who stepped up including Nick Stoddart who is in his first season as a development player, scored his first NBL points on Sunday and now was in the starting role.

Stoddart made a stunning start with three triples in the first quarter, Jordon Crawford still provided 13 points and eight assists fresh off welcoming a new baby this week and Ian Hummer also played almost 22 minutes for seven points and seven rebounds.

"Seany was a big blow to us. He's a huge factor of what we planned this season but we rallied around him and he has just got out of surgery during the game," Roth said.

"Crawford also just welcomed a new baby and he's been on a whirlwind 48-hour deal, and then we have these two games right away.

"It's just someone else stepping up and the next man up, and we got great contributions across the board. We started Nick Stoddart who has been on a tear with our practices for three or four weeks, and for him to step in there and go and play.

"Ian Hummer finally got the minutes that I think he earned and deserved, and we just had enough guys chipping in and Milton Doyle never gets an offensive rebound but he sure as heck got a big one."

Just from a pure size point of view, the JackJumpers were going to have their work cut out against Adelaide.

The Sixers possess size and brute strength with Isaac Humphries, Montrezl Harrell and Jarell Martin. While Humphries already had five offensive rebounds himself in the first half, his team only finished with 10 for the game.

Tasmania ended up winning the rebound battle 49-42 and had 17 offensive rebounds for 12 second chance points including the winning play from Doyle at the end.

"There's a few things that really take no talent and rebounding is actually one of them. We talk about this consistently about doing the things really well that take no talent," Roth said.

"Running back on defence, there's no talent involved, you either do it or you don’t. Going to offensive rebound, going to box out, 90 per cent of the rebounds are below the rim so it's more of a want.

"There's no talent involved other than finish your box outs and go do your job. We continue to harp on that and we've been a really good rebounding team the last three years, but this year so far we've been a little inconsistent. It's something, though, that we continue to talk about."
