The 12 day break before Game 1 of the Championship Series poses many challenges, but Breakers’ coach Mody Maor’s biggest concern is perhaps one that few would have seen coming.

Maor used the bizarre term, “basketball masturbation”, to describe the temptation for his side to overthink things and overanalyse matchups during their extended down time.

“Take advantage of the time to prepare but be really cautious about not abusing this time and going into basketball masturbation where you can just go around crazy with your Xs and Os because you have time to look at stuff that you don’t need,” Maor told The Huddle.

The gap between Game 3 of the Playoffs and Game 1 of the Championship Series will be the longest break in play between any finals games in NBL history (478 games).

“We have been through a big break this season that was forced upon us and you do a good job of reflecting, analysing, looking back what we did well, not well and what we can do better,” Maor explained.

“From this standpoint I think we have a good plan in place … It starts with the physical aspect, you want to come in as healthy and refreshed and as sharp as you can.”

Game 1 of the best-of-five Championship Series between Sydney and New Zealand tips-off on Friday March 3 at Qudos Bank Arena at 7:30pm AEDT. The game will be broadcast live and free on ESPN via Kayo Freebies, 10 Peach and 10 play, and Sky Sport in NZ.
