Sean Macdonald has signed a new two-year contract with the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Sean Macdonald has signed a new two-year contract with the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Macdonald, who has been a revelation in NBL23, will be contracted as a Development Player in the 2023/24 NBL season, before becoming a full-time rostered player the following year.

“We’re really thrilled to have Sean in our program for at least the next couple of seasons. He’s really thrived in this environment, and we think he has a really bright future with us,” JackJumpers coach Scott Roth said.

“He’s a fantastic kid who has bought into everything we’re trying to do here. He’s made huge improvements since coming down and we think he’ll continue to grow into a player and person that Tasmania is really proud to have representing this state.”

Macdonald has logged 20 minutes a game this season, averaging 6.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

He registered a career-high 14 points against Melbourne United on November 26, playing a crucial role off the bench while Clint Steindl recovered from injury and maintained his spot even with the JackJumpers' captain was back to full fitness.

“I’m absolutely loving being a part of this group and feel like this is where I’ll get the best out of myself over the next few years,” Macdonald said.

“I don’t think about the minutes I’m playing, for me it’s just getting the job done when I am on the floor and be the best teammate I can for the other guys when I’m not on the floor. That’s natural for me, but it definitely fits with our whole organisation’s philosophy and helped me to thrive here.

“It’s amazing to have the security of a couple of years, and to be guaranteed a roster spot in NBL25 will be incredible. I hope to be with the JackJumpers for a long time and continue to strive for championship success.”

Macdonald joins Clint Steindl, Jack McVeigh, Will Magnay and Jarred Bairstow on the list of players who are signed with the Tasmania JackJumpers beyond the 2022/23 NBL season.
