Lowery blasts "selfish" Harrell

"It cannot happen … it’s selfish, it lets the team know that you’re not with us."

Damon Lowery has blasted Montrezl Harrell for not being present in the Adelaide 36ers’ post-game team huddle, calling the former NBA star “selfish”.

It was another night to forget for the 36ers, losing their seventh game in eight matches, and making history with their third successive 20-plus point defeat - the only time that's happened in the team's 43-year tenure in the league.

But it was the immediate aftermath of the 116-92 loss to Perth that caught the attention of the former NBL champion.

“It cannot happen ... it’s selfish, it lets the team know that you’re not with us,” Lowery said of Harrell’s absence, as Jason Cadee addressed the playing group.

“We all know his pedigree, we all know what you’ve done in your career, but to not be out there with your team speaks for itself.”

Harrell came off the bench and finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in 28 minutes of action.

Lowery's fellow commentator Peter Hooley said the 36ers looked a “defeated” team.

“Everyone’s hurting in different ways, but you’ve got to get out of it together, and that’s just not a good sign,” he added.

36ers coach Mike Wells said “a bunch of different factors” played into Harrell not starting, including specific match-ups against Perth and enabling Dejan Vasiljevic, also coming off the bench in his return from injury, to play alongside another starter in his minutes.

Despite boasting one of the most talented rosters in the league, Adelaide is languishing in eighth place on the NBL standings.

Their once formidable home record is now a distant memory, with four straight defeats at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and fans’ patience seemingly wearing thin.
