Leroy’s Batemon challenge

Tuesday, December 10, 2024
“If it were me, and I was playing, I’d definitely be going for 60."
NBL legend Leroy Loggins has laid a challenge to Brisbane Bullets star James Batemon during the recent stretch of historic scoring performances.
Batemon scored an incredible 51 points in Round 9, which was, at the time, the most scored in a game since the league moved back to 40-minute games in 2009.
However, the very next round, four-time MVP Bryce Cotton upped Batemon’s effort with an eye boggling 59 points, and Loggins says it’s time for the Bullets' star to stay aggressive on the offensive end.
“It’s like a mind game going on – ‘hey, I’m James and I scored 51. Then, uh oh, I’m Bryce Cotton, I scored 59’,” Loggins laughed, via Fairfax.
“If it were me, and I was playing, I’d definitely be going for 60.
“I think he’s (Batemon) coming along pretty nicely, I know he’s celebrated his anniversary with his missus and had that 51, but come on bro – what are you going to give me tonight?"
Loggins added it is important for individuals not to get caught up in personal scoring hauls at the expense of the team.
“You don’t just depend on one guy, and if you go out and say in your head I’m going to get 60 and be what we call a ball hog it’s not going to happen. You’ve got to incorporate your teammates into that 60, as you saw with what James did and what Bryce Cotton did,” Loggins said.
Batemon has been a barometer of success for Brisbane, averaging 24.7 points in wins and 8.0 in losses.
The Bullets host the South East Melbourne Phoenix tonight at 7:30pm AEDT live on ESPN.
