Wednesday, July 12, 2023
Hyunjung Lee claims to be “the best shooter in the league”.
A new shooting star is in town, and he claims to be “the best shooter in the league”.
“I’ve got confidence, I feel like I’m the best shooter in the NBL,” Illawarra Hawks signing Hyunjung Lee told NBL Media.
Lee is playing for the Philadelphia 76ers at Summer League, and he joined the Hawks earlier this week.
Lee first appeared in Australia in 2018 and 2019, where he played NBL1 for Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence. He played alongside current Hawks players Sam Froling, Dan Grida and Wani Swaka Lo Buluk at the COE.
The South Korean took to the college court with the Davidson Wildcats from 2019-2022, where his three-point percentage of 44.2 is a single-season record, ahead of NBA superstar Steph Curry.
The 22-year-old said he is excited to get to Australia and join the club.
“I’m super excited. My guys Sam Froling, Wani [Swaka Lo Buluk], Dan Grida - all of the NBL CoE guys – we’ll all meet together so I’m really excited,” Lee said.
“Super talented team and also a super young team. So I feel like we can do a lot of things as a team, as individual success for the next two, three years.
“I’m really looking forward to play with them.”
Lee’s first game with the Hawks is on Saturday, September 30, against the Sydney Kings.
