Kings' move that could "wreck everything"

Saturday, January 4, 2025
"You’re going to bring in this point guard ... that’s not going to move the needle."
Damon Lowery has questioned why the Sydney Kings are targeting an import point guard, saying it could “wreck everything”.
ESPN's Olgun Uluc has reported the Kings are set to sign Lamonte Turner, a 6'2" point-guard who most recently played in Serbia.
The club is yet to confirm the news.
The Kings recorded the biggest comeback of the season on Thursday night, turning an 18-point third quarter deficit into a 110-101 win over the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
Speaking on NBL Now, Lowery stated Sydney found a winning formula in the fourth period and may need to reconsider its search for an additional point guard.
“You’re going to bring in this point guard ... that’s not going to move the needle,” Lowery said.
“Don’t go changing things up if you want some consistency. Shaun Bruce didn’t have great stats, but I felt like he had a good presence.
“Late in game (when Bruce was out), Jaylen Adams was off the ball, but Kouat Noi brought the ball up, Xavier Cooks brought the ball up ... them two guys will never be under pressure.
“They get it through a couple of hands and then it finishes with Jaylen.
“To bring in another point-guard is just going to, I feel, I could be wrong, wreck everything.”
Changing rotations have been an unwanted theme for the Kings this season and Lowery says coach Brian Goorjian needs to stick with his stars and not be tempted to constantly tinker with line-ups.
“(Alex) Toohey, Cooks, Adams are your 30-minute guys,” Lowery said.
“Brian’s got to be consistent now with the minutes and the guys he is playing.”
Sydney faces the Brisbane Bullets on Saturday night in a Summer Shootout game, live from 8pm AEDT on ESPN.
