Kings await if young star returns

“We see him as a long-term, key part of our program."

News of the Milwaukee Bucks waiving Jaylin Galloway raised the eyebrows of Sydney Kings fans and for good reason.

Before he departed the Kings for the NBA, the club announced a three-year extension for the promising wing, keeping his NBL rights through to 2027.

Now, with Galloway back on the open market, that extension holds significance for Sydney.

“We signed him on that extension before he left with situations like this in mind,” Kings CEO Chris Pongrass said.

“We see him as a long-term, key part of our program. Whether that is now or 12-months from now.

“For JG, he has the comfort knowing he always has a home here, and for us, we know that if he comes back to the NBL it is as a Sydney King.”

Galloway will reportedly explore all options overseas before deciding his future, after joining the Bucks on a two-way contract at the conclusion of NBL24.

“Ultimately, we want what is best for JG. If that means continuing to pursue his NBA dream on another two-way, then we are in his corner,” Pongrass said.

“But if he feels the next best step is back here in Sydney, then we will welcome him with open arms.”

That possibility of a return to the NBL and to the Kings is certainly not out of the question, as Sydney still has one roster spot left to fill.

Galloway developed into a standout player for the Kings, becoming a defensive weapon and a versatile offensive performer.
