Irving keen on representing Boomers

Tuesday, February 18, 2025
"If I can be an Aussie at one point in my career and play for the Australian team, that would be great."
Nine-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving has revealed he is “in the process” of trying to become eligible to represent the Australian Boomers.
Irving holds dual citizenship after he was born in Australia in 1992, but he has never represented the Boomers, instead playing for Team USA on several occasions, including the 2016 Olympics.
However, the 2016 NBA championship hero with the Cleveland Cavaliers has expressed a desire to play for Australia.
"Man, we're in the process of that right now, just trying to figure out the best route for me to be eligible," Irving said via Athlon Sports.
"There's a lot of paperwork involved. Obviously, USA still has a decision to make, but for me, I'm just trying to do what's best.
“Honestly, if I can be an Aussie at one point in my career and play for the Australian team, that would be great."
Irving is currently a member of the Dallas Mavericks. The 32-year-old is averaging 24.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists this season.
