The Illawarra Hawks are hopeful that should star big man Duop Reath not end up in the NBA, he'll be back in the 'Gong for NBL23.
Reath suited up for the Hawks in 30 games last season, averaging 15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game as Illawarra went all the way to the semi-finals.
Speaking to Liam Santamaria at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, GM of Basketball Mat Campbell explained the conversations are ongoing with Reath around return to the Club.
"We're consistently talking to him (Reath) every day. He's following his dream right now. He wants to make the NBA and we're supporting him in that space," Campbell explained.
"Until that either fizzles out or he makes it we're kind of in a little bit of a holding pattern with our import players. It makes it a little hard from a recruiting point of view but all in all we're pretty confident that if he doesn't make the NBA he'll play with us."
Queried on what the Hawks' recruiting focus would be in Vegas, the number one priority was an import guard to play alongside Tyler Harvey.
"Straight away, a guard is on the shopping list for us. We're looking for someone who can support Tyler Harvey. We've invested in him and what he brings to the Club,"
"We want to find someone who is a bit more versatile and make it a bit more of a two-pronged attack, so that's hot on the card for now."
