Forde addresses Taipans future

Thursday, December 12, 2024
"We are a results driven industry, there’s no one more comfortable about that than me."
Cairns coach Adam Forde has revealed he doesn’t “lose sleep” over his future despite the Taipans losing the last 11 games.
Forde, who is set to miss the post-season for the third time in his four seasons as Cairns coach, has no regrets about how he has built the Taipans’ program.
“One of the best pieces of advice that Trevor Gleeson told (me) was ‘if you ever lose your job, you want to do it on your terms’,” Forde said via The Cairns Post.
“This is a brilliant situation that I’ve had here in Cairns. I’ve got to pick the squad, the staff, we can sit here and talk (about) injuries and illnesses. The reality is, this is the model that I wanted to put together. We wanted to go young.
“We’re not just talking about this season, we’re talking about just in general how you lose players in the off-season to better offers and bigger markets, but that was the route we wanted to go. I’ve always had a level of comfort with my standing and Cairns has always been fantastic.
“This is the industry, we are a results driven industry, there’s no one more comfortable about that than me.”
The Taipans have been hit hard by injuries this season, with their projected starting five of Sam Waardenburg, Taran Armstrong, Pedro Bradshaw, Rob Edwards and Tanner Groves playing just three games and a total of 45 minutes across the entire campaign.
Cairns will look to snap its 11-game skid on Saturday night when it hosts the red-hot Bryce Cotton and the Perth Wildcats at 8pm AEDT live on ESPN.
