NBL sides are beginning to bring the fire with their Heritage Round jersey drops.

Whether it's a remake of a classic strip, a homage to past glory days, or a re-application of some old school colourways, sides are beginning to reveal the jerseys they'll wear in Round 16.

Memories of the glory-days of the Adelaide 36ers will come flooding back to the rusted on fans of the side courtesy of their NBL23 heritage strips.

The side will be wearing modern re-makes of the strip worn in game two of their 1998 championship triumph over the South East Melbourne Magic - a title that kickstarted a run of three rings in five years for the club.

“The 1998 side broke a 12-year championship drought and the uniform honors its history and brings back many fond memories," Adelaide CEO Nick Barbato said.

“Round 16 is the league-wide heritage round and it’s a nice touch we will wear the uniforms at home against Melbourne.”

The Brisbane Bullets have thrown it back all the way to their first steps as a club with their NBL23 Heritage Round strip, paying homage to the first jersey the club ever worse in 1979 - the inaugural season of the NBL.

Far from the blue and gold colours they're known for now, the Bullets' first uniform took inspiration from the red poinsettia, the city's floral emblem.

The club changed to its current colour scheme in 1982, but have remembered their roots for this season's Heritage Round.

The Illawarra Hawks have become synonymous with red and black in their recent time in the NBL, but as the only remaining foundation club in the competition those aren't the only colours they've worn in their storied history.

Throwing it back to 1979 - the first ever season of the NBL - Illawarra took to the court in a vibrant blue and yellow strip, with that first ever uniform proving the inspiration for this season's Heritage Round jersey.

Melbourne United have looked back to the future with their NBL23 Heritage Round strip and have leaned into the young history of the club as an opportunity to incorporate new colours into their jersey.

While the pinstripes and classic typefaces are nods to the heritage of the sport, United have aimed to use the opportunity to create a new jersey as a way to thank fans for their support this season.

"We were asked by the NBL last August to design a ‘retro’ uniform, so we made the decision to really lean into our Bring the Blue campaign and use our cobalt blue as the main colour in this uniform,” Melbourne United Chief Marketing Office Tom van de Vusse said.

"As our club continues to grow and evolve, we have been so impressed by our fans who have been bringing the blue each and every home game. We hope this uniform gives them yet another great jersey to wear proudly in their support of their club.”

Perth is paying homage to its legendary teams of the 1990's, when NBL legends like Ricky Grace, Andrew Vlahov and Mike Ellis helped lead the team to five grand finals in nine seasons - a run which brought home four championships.

The Phoenix have paid tribute to their fans in the South East of Melbourne - the self-proclaimed 'Heartland' of Australian basketball.

The green background on which the word Heartland is visibly displayed pays homages to the Dandenong Ranges mountain that overlook the south-eastern region of the city.

"We wanted to create a jersey that represents the passionate fans of the South East. When the players hit the court wearing these jerseys on January 25, they'll show how much the supporters mean to them and try to repay them for all the support they've given us over the season and years prior with a win in the Heartland," Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said.

Sydney has paid tribute to its electric period through the early 1990's with its heritage strip - a period which laid the bedrock for it to win three straight championships in the early 2000's.

Despite not winning a championship in the era these jersey's pay homage to, the Sydney sides contained some of the biggest superstars in what was a golden era for the side with the likes of Steve Carfino, Leon Trimmingham and Tim Morrissey.

"It was an epic time to be involved with the Kings," Morrissey reflected on the jersey's reveal. "The city embraced the team in a way that had never been seen before ... the current organisation continues to do a great job honouring the past and paying respects to its roots.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Rewinding it to the early 90s ?<br><br>The Sydney Kings have always been a club proud of their history, and this year is no different, as shown by the throwback for this season&#39;s NBL Heritage Round.<br>Learn more about our iconic jersey on our website: <a href="https://t.co/04GqaTNWV4">https://t.co/04GqaTNWV4</a><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/WeTheKings?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#WeTheKings</a> <a href="https://t.co/wZkGkvVbPs">pic.twitter.com/wZkGkvVbPs</a></p>&mdash; Sydney Kings (@SydneyKings) <a href="https://twitter.com/SydneyKings/status/1612661319081103360?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 10, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Since the Hobart Devils dissolved in 1996 the state of Tasmania had been without a sporting team to call its own. With the JackJumpers inclusion in the NBL in 2021 that changed.

The JackJumpers have drawn on that Devils heritage for their NBL23 heritage strip and have recreated the jersey that meant so much to the state for over a decade.

"We’re really proud to release this jersey and I think it will evoke a lot of emotion in many people who were heavily invested in the Devils and in basketball in Tasmania," JackJumpers General Manager of Basketball Jorrick Chivers said.

"Tasmanians were starved of NBL basketball for 26 years, but we know the fans are just as passionate and we’re really proud to have captured that passion and support throughout the first two seasons of the JackJumpers, so it’s really special to be able to honour the last Tasmanian team that played in the league."

The JackJumpers will be the only side to wear their Heritage Round strip for two home games this season.
